"Mom,” Sandy tugged at her mother’s shirtsleeve again.

“What is it this time?” Terri asked with an exasperated sigh, put down the knife she was using to chop up lettuce, and then turned to glare at her eight-year-old daughter. “Now really isn’t the time to bother me; I have to finish dinner.” Terri’s brusque reply died in her throat when she saw luminous tears spilling down her child’s cheeks from solemn brown eyes filled with fear. Berating herself for being so impatient, she bent down to wrap her arms around Sandy’s small frame. “What’s wrong?” she cried.

“I just saw something on television.” Sandy's words were muffled as she sobbed into her mother’s shoulder. “They were talking about the end of the world – and I’m scared!”

“Oh, baby!” Terri said and held her tighter, glad she had found a book that could reassure Sandy the world wasn’t out of control. Having never been an avid Bible student because she found the Bible characters flat and one-dimensional, for years Terri had avoided reading the sacred book her own parents had pushed down her throat as a child. “Would you like me to read the book to you that Daddy and I’ve been reading?”

“Really?” Sandy stepped out of the circle of her mother’s arms to look up and comment with a wistful look, “It’s been a long time since you did that…”

At the hesitation in Sandy’s eyes Terri reached down to smooth traces of tears from her cheeks and explain soothingly, “It’s not too old for you either. It’s an easy book to listen to, full of excitement and mystery. I think once you hear it, fears about the end of the world won’t frighten you anymore. You’ll find that there is someone in control of the world after all…”

…You’ve probably realized this is a fabricated scene but really, do you ever wonder what the future holds? It seems the world is indeed out of control. For many, these are foreboding times steeped in darkness and fear, when much of what we’ve depended upon is no longer solid.

What if a book existed, spanning over thirty generations of heartache and tragedy turned into triumph, that could so captivate and grip you, it could even wipe away the dread from your own heart? What if you could confidently hand it to a friend, a family member, or even read it to an elder child, certain it would give them hope?

There is such a book – its title is “The Golden Thread”. Click here for excerpts.
