Catherine J. Craig’s new novel – a three-part saga titled “The Golden Thread” woven through dramatization and characters-turned-storytellers, contains gripping stories of Jesus Christ's lineage, spanning thirty generations of Old Testament History. By using “story within a story” techniques, a kaleidoscope of experiences ranging from a young boy bullied for his faith to chilling battle scenes holds the reader captive. The story lines derived from the ancestry of Jesus Christ are from the first chapter of the Book of Matthew in the New Testament. Sixteen pages of endnotes at the end of the 458-page novel easily guide the reader back to the Old Testament references, and occasionally from a small number of fictional characters and scenes that have been interjected into the original stories.

Catherine says this book might still lay, catacombed in her computer, without her husband Jeff's encouragement. First he asked her to put everything else aside to finish it, stating, "This story deserves to be read, and it should be." Day after day, he listened to almost every page - crying through some and laughing through others - until it was finished. Then, he even wrote the foreward in his wife's book.

"The Golden Thread" encapsulates history from a different angle than our pop culture does. In today's modern way of thinking, we write the past, present, and then predict the future as if God never had any real place in it at all. Did you know that the Old Testament predicts that Egypt, Assyria, and Israel will one day lay down their war plans and become friends? Believe it or not, in the past when schoolbooks taught the world was flat, the Bible clearly said the world was round.
